What do I work with?

Museum-assistent

I have worked at Museum Amager with promotion of - and research on - the art collection.

Mostly I have done research on the painter Christian Mølsted (1862-1930), a local painter but very famous in his own days especially for his depiction of the battles at sea that Denmark has taken part in since the 17th century. I'm preparing a collection of his letters to his future wife, written between 1887-1891, The aim is to have the collection of letters published next year.

In 2015 and 2016 I curated exibitions on Christian Mølsted art. They were shown at Dragoer Museum, a satelite museum under Museum Amager.

The museum also started a project to register local historic dishes. It was done as a joint venture between the museum and the local archive. The result will be published as a cook book ultimo 2017.

Research for Dragoer local archive

First part of a research project about the painters colony in the coastal town on Amager during the period 1890-1930. Next state has just begun and will be finished late 2017.

The aim is to have a wide perspective on the subject. And to relate the Dragoer colony not only to the other national colonies but also to the international ones, with an emphasis on the British, French and Scandinavian painters colonies.

So far it seems that there are two interesting issues concerning the Dragoer colony. The first one: many of the painters are part of a conservative movement against modern styles (read: impressionists) in painting. Secondly: the are a many female artists represented in the colony.

I have previously done research on other national painters colonies in Odsherred and Funen.

A painting by the Danish painter Aksel Möller, who was part of the colony of painters working and living in the rural Odsherred from the 1930's on. I have given lectures on this colony of painters. This painting hangs in a private home in Odsherred but the Odsherred Kunstmuseum ( the local museum of art) has an excellent collection of other paintings of this group of painters.
Lectures

I give lectures at Folkeuniversitetet (Danish University Extension) in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Herning. My subjects are art and architecture - until now mainly Danish art and architecture.

The subjects are:
Danish painters colonies of the late 19th century.
Portrait painting in Denmark from the Renaissance till present,
Famous Danish architects,
Danish architecture of the Historicism,
Odsherredmalerne (An artist colony based in Odsherred on Sealand from the 1930's till the 1960's) Outsiders among Danish painters.

Previously I have also given lectures at several Oplysningsforbund (Evening schools) and at Seniorhøjskoler (Folk High Schools for Senior citizens).

The Manor House Rysensteen in Northwest Jutland was in the early 19.th century a 'victim' of a group of speculaters who split up the land into pieces. Luckily one of the speculaters (P. A. Höegh) later collected the pieces back into one estate. This is what my latest article is about.
Articles

Resently I have worked on an article about school house architecture of Copenhagen 1870-1920 for Copenhagen City Archives. It has not been published yet but a differnt version will be in the Arkitekten magazine ultimo 2017.

At the moment I am writing an article about the Christian Mølsted letters mentioned earlier. It will be published in a Museum Amager antology in autumn 2017.

A small folder called Kunstnerkolonien i Dragør 1890-1930 (The Artists Colony of Dragoer 1890-1930) were made for a mini-exibition in Dragoer 2016. I can be found on my danish blog but has not yet been translated into English.

I have a special interest in casles, manor houses and stately homes. I have written an article published in the Gammel Estrup Manor Museum's annual publication Herregårdshistorie. The subject was been Danish manor house architecture on the island of Langeland in the age of Historicism (2012).

Fot he same publication I wrote Godsspekulanter i vestjylland i begyndelsen af det 19. århundrede (Speculators in country estates in the early 19.th  century in northwest of Jutland) published 2015. The articles has not yet been translated into English but you can reed the latest in Danish on my Danish blog www.tinaskunstblog.dk under the category 'Mine artikler'.

The interior of the Elias Church on Vesterbro Torv in Copenhagen is the work of the architect Martin Nyrup. He also created the fantastic new Town Hall in Copenhagen in the first decade of the 20.th century. The inspiration for his works was the medieval churches of his own country and abbeys in other european countries. He is one of the architects I would like to include in a book on the architects of the age of Historicism in Denmark.
Books
The period of Historicism in Danish architecture has been subject of some publications in the last decades. A series of very skilled architects worked in this busy period of Danish architecture. Only a few of them has been found worthy of interest from writers. However there are a number of these artist who deserves a closer look into their works. I hope to be able to write about this group in the future.
