PICTURE OF THE MONTH

August

At the Museum Amager a group volunteers create a 'live' museum all through July. Here we are in the school room where a little girl - the visiting children has tthe possibility to be dressed up as farm maids or boys anno 1900 - are being taught by 'the teacher' to write with pen and ink. The picture is from the last day of the 'live' museum this year!
July
From the open air museum, Den Fynske Landsby (The Funish Village) near Odense. The farmhouses in the Village are all from different locations on Funen. The houses looks exactly like they did in Hans Christian Andersens time at the middle of the 19th century!

May
A view from the tiny garden of the Mølsted Museum in the coastal town of Dragoer on the island of Amager near Copenhagen. The city houses are very idyllic, nearly all of them painted yellow and many with thatched roofs. Some 150 years ago the habour of Dragoer was the third most busy habour in Denmark. The Mølsted Museum is one of the smallest in Denmark. It is situated in the studio of the painter Christan Mølsted (1862-1930) and has a small exhibitions of his work. Born and bred in the coastal town, he painted ships and naval scenes from a very young age. He later attended the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen, but naval scenes and the sea stayed his favourite subjects. Photo: Tina Høegh Nielsen

Due to PC problems I was not able to post pictures from January to April.

December

The Manor Museum Gammel Estrup near Randers in Jutland dressed in winter coat. I took the picture last Christmas when Denmark was covered in snow. This year we haven't yet had snow. But a December picture from Denmark must have snow, like this from the Manor Museum which is open to the public all year around. In December there is a distinct smell of Christmas especially in the kitchen where the cook is preparing the meal for the Master and his Mistress. The Museum is very much alive and you can also meet the Master and Mistress of the glorious days of the 18. th century in the beautiful apartment up stairs. Near by you find The Museum of Agriculture located in the old stables of Gammel Estrup. Photo: Tina Høegh Nielsen, December 2012.

November

November: A view of the garden through the windows of the villa in the Johannes Larsen Museum. From the 1890'ies it was the home of the artists Alhed and Johannes Larsen. They were part of the painters colony located at the island of Funen. The museum is in Kerteminde, a little town on the north-east coast. Like other painters colonies the wanted to portray rural life and the colours of the country side. Many of their paintings hangs on the walls of the villa and in the moderne museum built at the other side of the garden. Alhed Larsen died in 1928, Johannes Larsen died in 1962 at the age of 94. Their children and grandchildren used the villa as a vacation-villa until 1974, when it was made into a museum. Besides their works you find works of other painters of the Funen colony in the museum.
